Insurance SEO Tip #1: Check their Architecture

First and foremost, insurance seo is only as effective as the  website’s architecture.  Your site must be built to incorporate social media, blog integratipon, social bookmarking, rss, contact forms and more.  Quite frankly, there are tons of guys waiting to sell insurance agents pre-built templates.  That perform poorly on the internet.

In order to pick a good web developer, get a list of their top sites, and enter their URLs into Hub Spot’s Website Grader.  That will tell you whether  the sites make a passing grade.  Generally speaking, if a site’s grade is below an 80, they have a hard time performing on the web.  As a result, these sites must be rebuilt.

Insurance SEO Tip #2:  People Don’t Read, Robots Read!

Avoid flowery content that serve little to no purpose.  Remember, the words on the page are for the search engine to index you.  If you write about Abilene Car Insurance, the search engine will index you under that.  If you write about being a “full service” agency, you’ll get indexed with Marketing agencies.

In general, people respond to videos, large graphics and calls to actions.  So, have those items placed strategically on your page.  This will highlight the products you’re trying to promote while having the content to draw search engine attention.

Insurance SEO Tip #3:  Guessing is for dummies.  Use Analytics to make educated choices

When I first started blogging, I blogged about “cheap” and “affordable” insurance.  On one hand, the word cheap got me tons of the wrong business.  On the other hand, no one searched the world affordable in my local area.  As a result, using  “affordable” car insurance sabotaged my SEO efforts because that term lead to someone who owned that traffic.

To avoid using the wrong keywords, use Google’s Keyword Tool to determine whether a search phrase warrants your time and effort.  That way, you’ll avoid my mistake of being number 1 on BING for “affordable auto insurance dallas, tx” and getting 1 sale in 6 months.

Insurance SEO Tip #4:  We know you’re an expert!  Share the Love!

One of my first sales actually came from the Active Rain network.  I signed up to a realtor social media network in order to network with realtors as an insurance agent.  Little did I know that by blogging about insurance on that site and sharing my information, I was able boost my site’s ranking on the web.

As a result, I often contribute content to third party sites in order to contribute my two cents to the world.  Sometimes, the sheer size of these article sites can actually land your content on page 1 position 1.  So next time you write a hard hitting article that you want to get more attention, try repurposing and reposting that content on a third party article site.  You’ll get a highly credible back link that also boosts your credibility on the web.  This insurance SEO trick will certainly make you smile to see your content at the top.

Insurance SEO Tip #5:  Smile, you’re on camera!

Video is powerful.  Videos posted to youtube and and other sharing sites give your site a high level of credibility if you are careful with the sites title and discritpions.  Simply put, if you take the time to create and post video, you’re going to get bonus points on the test.  What’s better than video linking back to your webite?  Lot’s of videos pointing and linking back to your site.
